CELLO
Asha McCarthy is a versatile cellist and multi faceted musician, a performer in Western Classical, North Indian Classical, and folk music.
After initial study at Chetham's and Dartington Arts, she received an Indian Council for Cultural Relations scholarship to continue her study of the Indian cello in Delhi. She plays on a specially adapted cello for Hindustani music with sympathetic strings, pioneered by Saskia Rao de Haas and made by Eduard van Tongeren.
Asha has collaborated with musicians across genres, and has performed internationally in orchestras, chamber music, and as a soloist.
Aside from performance, she is a prolific composer and arranger, and recently released a debut album of her songs.
She also teaches cello and choirs in the South West (UK) and online, infusing her work with fun and nurturing the musicians and music in her care.
